History of tourism in the APuZ

In the current episode of the podcast "Aus Politik und Zeitgeschichte (APuZ)" of the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic Education), Christian Bunnenberg talks with Holger Klein about the history of tourism on the topic of 'Travel and Tourism' (link to podcast). Issue 50/2021 of APuZ also features an essay on the history of cruise tourism and the so-called "Orientfahrt" with the Augusta Victoria in 1891 (link to article).


New Online-Exhibition

At the end of the winter semester 2021/22, the 5th year of the Public History program opens the exhibition "DDR-Haftzwangsarbeit für den Westen" - for the second time as online-exhibition!



9. Geschichtskonvent Ruhr

On October 29, 2021 Theresa Hiller and Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg participated in the 9th History Convention Ruhr: Digital Historical Culture in the Ruhr Area (program) and gave the keynote lecture "Digital Geschichtskultur [im Ruhrgebiet]" (Bunnenberg) and the lecture "Mit den Zeitzeugnissen von 'Menschen im Bergbau' historisch lernen: Die digitale Lernplattform MiBLabor" (Hiller). An article written by Theresa Hiller concerning her lecture topic was released recently in "Forum-Geschichtskultur". International Conference on the War 1870/71

From October 1 to 3, 2021, the international conference "70/71 - Ein Krieg an der Schwelle zur Moderne / Une guerre au seuil de la modernité" took place. The conference was organized by Prof. Dr. Frank Becker (University of Duisburg-Essen), Prof. Dr. Tobias Arand (PH Ludwigsburg) and Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) and took place as a hybrid event. New horizons of medieval history

Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg took part in the panel discussion "Neue Horizonte mittelalterlicher Geschichte: Digitale und analoge Vermittlungsformen im Gespräch" ("New horizons of medieval history: Digital and analog forms of mediation in conversation") on October 9, 2021, as part of the "Tag der Landesgeschichte Rheinland-Pfalz".


Lecture Series Public History

In the winter semester 2021/22, the lecture series will again be co-hosted with the Department of Public History at the University of Hamburg! New Project: "Kulturen des Kompromisses" - "Cultures of compromise"

The new project of the universities of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), Münster (WWU) and Bochum (RUB) will start in November 2021! More about the interdisciplinary research network can be found on the RUB news portal. A post-doctoral position has been advertised in the field of Didactics of History/Public History, the application deadline is September 13, 2021.

In summer 2021 the coronarchiv could be heard four times on Deutschlandfunk!

In the broadcast of June 16, 2021, Deutschlandfunk Kultur broadcast the article "Digitales Corona-Archiv. Kollektives Gedächtnis". Christian Bunnenberg reports on the start of the project and the developments so far. 

On July 1, the podcast feature Zeitfragen discussed "Die Pandemie als Feldversuch: Welche Erkenntnisse die Wissenschaft aus der Coronakrise zieht" with the participation of Christian Bunnenberg. Also on July 1, Deutschlandfunk Nova broadcast the episode "Zeitkapsel. Erinnerungen für die Zukunft festhalten".

On August 17, Christian Bunnenberg talks about the coronarchiv and "Über unsere Zeitwahrnehmungen in der Pandemie".

In april 2021 Osburg Verlag publishes an annotated edition of the Fröschweiler Chronik. Kriegs- und Friedensbilder aus dem Jahr 1870! Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg publishes the volume together with Prof. Dr. Tobias Arand (PH Ludwigsburg)

Workshop "Werksfilm, Gebrauchsfilm, Industriefilm"

Description:

In cooperation with the Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum Bremerhaven and the research workshop Public History & Montangeschichte, a workshop for young researchers will take place on May 12, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., focusing on industrial film, utility film, factory film, and visual history.

The focus will be on a joint exchange among young scholars and graduates about ongoing projects and the current state of research. In addition, we offer the opportunity to present your own research work in a short lecture. The lecture program includes contributions on the industrial film of deep-sea fishing, the steel industry and open-cast lignite mining. In addition, contributions from GDR film history and archival practice will be discussed.

The workshop is limited to ten participants and will take place via Zoom. Registration by mail at felix.frank[at]ruhr-uni-bochum.de. If you wish to give a lecture, please include the topic for the purpose of scheduling.



Project: Cruise tourism

Winner 5x5000€ contest

With the teaching project "EDIT - gEschichte DIgiTal produzieren" Christian Bunnenberg, Theresa Hiller and Elena Lewers have won the 27th round of the 5x5000 competition of the eLearning department of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum! This means that the project will be funded with 5000€ in the summer semester 2021.

Scientific advisory board

Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg has been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board for the special exhibition "Gras drüber... Bergbau und Umwelt im deutsch-deutschen Vergleich" at the Deutsches Bergbaumuseum in Bochum. 


The history textbook in the 21st century

Online-Conference "'Menschen im Bergbau - Perspektiven auf Oral History, Industriekultur und Vermittlung"

On May 7 and 8, 2021, the online conference "'Menschen im Bergbau - Perspektiven auf Oral History, Industriekultur und Vermittlung" will take place. It is part of the research project "Menschen im Bergbau".
The event will focus on the opportunities and limitations of oral history for the Ruhr region and beyond, as well as on the role of contemporary witnesses and their narratives for the culture of remembrance. In addition to the mechanisms of action in the media world, the conference will also focus on the extent to which the examination of contemporary witnesses is taken into account in historical-political educational work.


The conference is aimed at researchers, actors in historical culture as well as teachers. The event can be credited to teachers as a continuing education course.

Online-Conference "Vergangenheitsatmosphären und Verkörperung in digitalen historischen Räumen"

On February 25 and 26, 2021, the online conference "Vergangenheitsatmosphären und Verkörperung in digitalen historischen Räumen" will take place. It will be hosted by Nico Nolden , Felix Zimmermann and Christian Bunnenberg in cooperation with the Working Group Historical Science and Digital Games (AKGWDS). Three contributions from Bochum are included - by Nicola Przybylka, Susanne Becker and Elena Lewers.
