  • On 23 October 2018 the lecture series Public History (winter semester 18/19) started.
  • Cornelsen-Verlag has published the volume "45 Vertretungsstunden für die Klassen 5-10", which is edited by Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg and others. The book offers clearly structured materials for competence-oriented history lessons for experienced colleagues, young professionals, trainees and teachers from other fields.
  • On 26 October 2018, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg offered a workshop on the topic "Mit Schüler*innen ins Museum - Geschichtsunterricht am außerschulischen Lernort" [Taking pupils to the museum - history lessons in extracurricular places of learnig] a s part of the 5th Egyptian History Teachers' Day in Cairo.
  • 25 September 2018 - Lecture, „Geschichtsunterricht mit Wow-Effekt? Die digitale Herausforderung und Geschichtslehrpersonen – unterrichtspragmatische Einsatzmöglichkeiten digitaler Medien im kompetenzorientierten Geschichtsunterricht in der Diskussion“ [History lessons with wow-effect? The digital challenge and history teachers - Pragmatic applications of digital media in competence-oriented history teaching under discussion] , Conference: “Machen GeschichtslehrerInnen den Unterschied? Aktuelle Konzepte und Kontroversen der Geschichtslehrerausbildung auf dem Prüfstand”, working group “Empirische Geschichtsunterrichtsforschung” of the German Society for History Didactics in cooperation with the District Government of Münster
  • For the Federal President's history competition, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg has created new worksheets for the historical project work on "creative forms of representation" (including film, radio play, radio feature, podcast, theatre play, historical comic and (short) novel, historical exhibition, city tour and city walk). He also gave an interview on the topic of "Telling history creatively" for the current Spurensucher booklet on the competition.  The worksheets for the historical project work can be downloaded from the website of the Körber Stiftung: www.geschichtswettwerb.de
  • On 6 September 2018, the "Launch Event for the Federal President's History Competition" took place at the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Bonn. Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg offered a workshop on the topic „Bewerten: Darstellungsformen, Bewertungskriterien und Arbeit der Juroren des Geschichtswettbewerbs“ [Evaluation: forms of representation, evaluation criteria and the work of the jurors of the history competition] 
  • Start of the Summerschool "Nachhaltig(keit) Kommunizieren” at the Ruhr-University Bochum (4-7 & 18 September 2018). Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg gave a lecture on the topic "What does sustainability mean in the field of historical science?” The Summerschool is organised as a mini-congress with varied inputs from science and practice, workshops and interdisciplinary working groups. More than twenty Master's students from the fields of history, education, social sciences, engineering, economics and media sciences took part.
  • Together with students of the MA Public History, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg went on an excursion to Neupotz (Rhineland-Palatinate) on 7 July 2018. At the invitation of the association „Alte Geschichte für Europa“the students participated in a lecture by Marcus Altmann on "Roman patrol boats on the wet Limes" and the workshop "Can you row into the past? - Learning place rowing boat" by Prof. Dr. Tobias Arand (Ludwigsburg University of Education). Afterwards they were taken on a two-hour tour on the reconstructed Roman patrol boat Lusoria Rhenana.
  • On 29 June, an excursion to the LVR Industrial Museum at the Cromford Textile Factory in Ratingen took place under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dieter Ziegler and Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg. The students of the MA Public History received insights into the museum's concept during a guided tour by the curators.
  • Prof. Dr. Sandra Aßmann and Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg have received a grant from the Rectorate of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum for the project „Phase: in Public History angeleitet soziale Wirklichkeit erforschen“ as part of the university programme "Forschendes Lernen". The project aims to implement an online module on methods of empirical social research in the MA Public History. Duration: October 2018 to November 2019.
  • From 22 to 25 May 2018 a history-didactic excursion to Flanders took place under the direction of Prof. Dr. Tobias Arand (Ludwigsburg University of Education) and Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg. The topic was "Death Rides in Flanders - The First World War: Event and Memory". Students from both universities visited numerous museums, cemeteries, monuments and commemorative events in the so-called "Ypernbogen" and developed and discussed the potential of these extracurricular learning places for history teaching in joint seminar sessions.
  • On 5 March 2018, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg spoke about the topic „Zeigen, wie es gewesen ist 2.0? - Virtual-Reality-Angebote und geschichtskulturelles Lernen im Geschichtsunterricht“ [Showing how it was 2.0? - Virtual Reality Offers and Historical-Cultural Learning in History Classes]  at the conference „Virtuelle Geschichte in der Schule“. The event was organised by the Professional School of Education of the Ludwigsburg University of Education and the University of Stuttgart.
  • On 2 March 2018, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg participated in the workshop „Digitale Lernmethoden und kollaboratives Arbeiten in der Geschichtswissenschaft” [Digital Learning Methods and Collaborative Working in History]  at the Max Weber Foundation in Bonn. The results of the workshop will be incorporated into teaching in the summer semester 2019, specifically into the history-didactic advanced seminar: „Geschichtsunterricht zum downloaden? Analyse und Erstellung von Unterrichtsmaterialien als Open-Educational-Resources (OER) für den Geschichtsunterricht“. [History lessons as a download? Analysis and creation of teaching materials as Open Educational Resources (OER) for history teaching] 
  • On 16 March 2018, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg and students of the MA Public History took part in a curatorial tour through the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Bonn, organised by the “Arbeitskreis Museum” in the German Society for History Didactics.
  • At the RUB-Teachers Day, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg offered a workshop for history teachers on the topic „Geschichtsunterricht 2.0? Digitale Medien und Inhalte im Geschichtsunterricht“ [History teaching 2.0? Digital media and content in history lessons]  
  • „Quellen im Geschichtsunterricht“ [Sources in history lessons]  was the topic of a teacher training course which Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg offered for history teachers of the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium Bergisch Gladbach together with the Bergisch Gladbach City Archive on 22 February.
  • From 9 to 10 February 2018, Prof. Dr. Christian Bunnenberg participated in this year's meeting of the History Education Network at the Körber Stiftung in Hamburg. The topic of the event was the upcoming Federal President's history competition, which started on 1 September 2018.
