We offer a 1.5 day workshop to become familiar with the enormous morphological diversity of Brassicaceae. The workshop aims to introduce principal problems of taxonomy and recognizing the correct names; since names are the key to any biology. In addition various other aspects of Brassicaceae biology are also discussed (see below). We also introduce you to the first release of the knowledge database system BrassiBase.

Introduction to theory

  • principles and basic rules of botanical nomenclature
  • systematics, biogeography and phylogeny (+ morphological variability) of Cruciferae
  • seed storage

Practical training

  • introduction to BrassiBase
  • working with specimens (extracting morphological information from vouchers)
  • species identification with use of dichotomous and interactive polytomous keys
  • preparation of simple dichotomous keys for a set of several species

Registration until September 15th 2012.
A detailed schedule of the workshop will be provided at the end of September.
Please organise your own accomodation as early as possible, e.g. Hotel Café Frisch (500 m).
