Thegroup

The Mercator Research Group "Structure of Memory" investigates episodic and semantic memory processes and their relation to other cognitive processes. It comprises three research units with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of  philosophers as well as experimental and theoretical neuroscientists. The research proceedings are presented at conferences and regular colloquia as well as in scientific publications. The group is internationally oriented and the main language of communication is English. The members of the group interact closely and collaborate with diverse partners worldwide. In addition, internationally renown senior scientists are regularly invited for extended research stays in the research group.

In 2011, the group founded the new RUB small-animal MR scanner center in collaboration with the RUB with the aim of conducting translational memory research. By developing fMRI-compatible cognitive tasks for awake animals, we will be able to bridge further between human and animal studies of memory function.
