Open Access

As a signatory of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access (October 2003), the  Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) supports the scientific political demand for open access to scientific publications. The RUB Rectorate officially passed a resolution in support of Open Access on March 6, 2013.

Publication Fund

Since 2014, articles in gold open access journals have been funded by the RUB with the support of the DFG. Members of the RUB who act as corresponding authors, can now apply for funding for the publication year 2020.

The University Library Bochum offers several central services for the publication of scientific work under open access conditions.

The RUB repository contains electronically published dissertations and habilitations by members of the Ruhr University Bochum. It allows you to make your scientific texts permanently accessible free of charge and with little effort. The publications are also documented in the RUB Campus Research Bibliography.

Legal Matters

Many publishers allow secondary publication of an already published article on the RUB repository. However, the legal obligations imposed by the copyright laws and the rights of use laws have to be met.

The European Commission aims to ensure maximum worldwide access to the publications it funds. For this reason, HORIZON 2020 requires free access to research publications for all projects.
