International Week titel

International Week from 8-12 June

From June 8 to 12, representatives from partner universities, students, researchers, members of staff and alumni come together at the campus to celebrate the RUB anniversary. The programme is as diversified as the protagonists’ countries of origin: from theatre plays, through culinary delights, workshops and lectures, all the way to exotic music, there is a lot to explore.

Each day is themed around a different (sub-)continent in the Mensa Foyer:

The International Week starts Monday, June 8 with "Asia". International students at RUB will be offering an Origami workshop in the Mensa Foyer and present typical Asian games such as Ayatori and Komamawashi. You are welcome to participate. From 6-8 pm, there will be a special football match: an international team of RUB versus a Chinese team of Tongji University.

Tuesday, 9 June, is themed around "Eastern Europe". Those who always wanted to get more detailed information about customs and traditions of Eastern Europe should visit the Mensa Foyer.
Besides, the third German Diversity Day takes place. Therefore, RUB invites all members of the university to join a special project by 12 o’clock on the Forum in front of Audimax: making a human chain in the form of the letters V and I, standing for Variety and Internationality. After a signal, the colorful balloons will be released into the sky as a statement of diversity and tolerance. The balloons will be handed out to you at the Forum from 11 am. At night, you may visit the play “12 chairs”, which will be presented in German, Ukrainian and Russian languages in the Centre for Music and Arts.

Wednesday, June 10, is focused on "Western/Southern Europe". On this day, you can take part in many exciting activities in a cultural framework. For example, you may start by taking part in the workshop "Improvisational theatre" or use the day to get to know more about music, dance and the theatre "fet a Catalunya" in the Mensa building 01/2.

On Thursday, June 11, "The Americas – from North to South" will be in the centre of attention. Among other things, you can admire a performance of the Chilean traditional dance "Cueca" or learn more about the culture and traditions of Brazilians. During lunchtime, the country singer Tom Frost will give a concert in the Mensa Foyer. Thus, come along and dance with us.

Friday, June 12, will be known for the slogan "Global Day". On the last day of the International Week you are invited to participate in a vocal percussion performance, in a workshop about "Introduction to Intercultural Communication" or in a performance of improvisational theatre. In the evening, you may admire the Blues Session.

During the whole week there will be infopoints, lectures and an arts & culture programme for the specific themes in the building of the Mensa. The activities which are listed here are only a small part of all the diversified activities that are being offered during the International Week.

From Monday until Friday you will also have the chance to do “Geocaching”, a modern form of a scavenger hunt. In order to find the treasure and to get to the international prices you will have to use a GPS receiver and solve different riddles. We created a route just for the International Week. The multi-cache guides you to different international places on the RUB campus. You will receive more information in the Mensa Foyer.

For some activities, such as the workshops or the language courses, which will be offered for different languages each day, you have to register beforehand. The participation is free of charge.
