Zentrum für simulationsbasierte Lehre

Who we are and what we do

The Zentrum für Simulationsbasierte Lehre (ZSBL) at the RUB is a central point of contact for the various simulation-based teachings at the RUB and makes it possible to network the diverse offerings of the departments with each other. Our motto is linking, connecting, centralizing. We aim for a transparent organization of the offers and cooperate with many different faculties and have a wide range of content.

In addition, we offer professional and individual support and advice. We can be reached online via the RUB homepage. Our offer is aimed at the RUB's teaching staff, lecturers and students (and external companies).

Simulation-based teaching formats such as discussion training or business games are to be given the Center for Simulation-based Teaching in order to anchor them structurally and make them permanent.

What is simulation-based teaching?

„Simulation“ is the generic term for a created representation of the „real world“. This is exactly what we take advantage of to give learners the opportunity to rehearse and gain experience during the simulation. Simulation-based teaching supports the transfer of knowledge and skills into practice through active doing.

The simulation of a clinical case („scenario“) consists of didactically different parts, which are completed together by a small group of students:

  1. Representation of a realistic scenario by the instructor („briefing“) and creation of an authentic working environment
  2. Feedback on the measures carried out by the simulator
  3. Final meeting in which the key points of the scenario are explained, the measures are discussed and summarized (debriefing)

What are the benefits of simulation-based teaching?

The advantages of these new teaching units are obvious: Simulation training enables a step-by-step practice in a realistic environment, which allows an optimal theory-practice transfer. The increasing complexity of various disciplines requires a higher level of competence in order to develop solutions based on critical and reflective thinking, which is clearly promoted by simulation-based teaching. In particular, simulation training is used to develop confidence in dealing with customers, patients, clients and employees at every professional level. The positive or negative experiences gained in the simulations can be analyzed and reflected upon in order to optimize actions, communication and processes.

→ Students acquire the necessary specialist skills in theory and implement them within a protected framework using practical learning scenarios.
