Building: UFO

Prerequisites: None

Medium: "Exterior" authors

Content: In this seminar, students will gain an insight into the work of a literary agency and will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge, which is initially learned, in a practical way in cooperation with authors. The focus lays especially on the cooperation between the author and the agency, as well as the joint work on the manuscript with the final goal of successfully submitting the manuscript to a publisher.

Procedure: First, students learn basic knowledge about the publishing industry and the book market. In the next step, participants are trained in giving feedback, i.e. how to talk to authors about their manuscripts, but without interfering too much.

At the beginning of the seminar, a call for submissions will be launched, inviting authors to submit their manuscripts. The selection of the author(s) is done similarly to an editing session by presenting and defending the selected manuscript. Consequently, students work with the respective author(s) on the manuscript for the remainder of the seminar. The seminar concludes with the manuscripts being submitted to a publisher.
