VISIT OF THE COLLECTION OF MEDICAL HISTORY WITH REGUGEE PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

On Tuesday, 04 June 2019, 8 participants of the study preparation programme "Integra" of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum visited the collection of medical history.

The Medical History Collection of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum is a teaching and research collection. With more than 10,000 individual items, it covers the entire spectrum of medical technology of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The visit to the Medical History Collection is part of a series of events in the Integra programme in which the participants are given an insight into the diversity of the Ruhr-Universität's study subjects by means of vivid examples. The visit provided the participants with an insight into the changing ideas about the body from the Stone Age to the recent past and the role medical technology played in this. For example, it was very interesting to find out what equipment was used at the beginning of the 20th century to rescue a miner in an accident.

Afterwards, the participants were able to discuss their studies at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum with students of the Fachschaft Medizin and clarify questions.
