VISIT OF THE LEARNING AND RESEARCH FACTORY WITH REFUGEE PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

On Tuesday, the 12 December 2018, 19 participants of the preparatory programme "Integra" of Ruhr-Universität Bochum visited the Learning and Research Factory of the Chair for Production Systems in Bochum-Langendreer.

The Learning and Research Factory belongs to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and enables a better combination of theoretical and practical training. During a guided tour through the Learning and Research Factory, two members of the chair explained which products are developed and manufactured there. In addition, an insight into the current research areas was given.

For the participants of the Integra programme it was particularly interesting to see that students of mechanical engineering can implement scientific projects in the Learning and Research Factory. As a follow-up to the guided tour, a discussion took place with two Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering students and one Master of Mechanical Engineering student, in which the participants were able to ask questions about the studies in Mechanical Engineering. For instance, it was pointed out that studying mechanical engineering is very labour-intensive, but there are also a number of support options.

The visit of the Learning and Research Factory is part of a series of events the Integra programme organises, in which participants are given an insight into the diversity of Ruhr-Universität Bochum's study subjects by means of vivid examples. The excursion to the Learning and Research Factory was used as an opportunity to introduce the mechanical engineering subject to the participants.
