World Refugee Day 2019

Since 2001, World Refugee Day has been held on 20 June as a United Nations Day of Action. It is intended to pay tribute to the courage and strength of refugees worldwide.

Participants of the Refugee Aid in Bochum invite to panel discussions around the World Refugee Day on 15 June 2019 from 12.00-13.00 in Blue Square.

The topic of the panel discussion will be the refugee work in Bochum since 2015, where refugees will report on their personal experiences as well as upcoming challenges in the future in the field of refugee work.

The guiding questions for the event are:
1 What has been done and achieved in the refugee work in Bochum since 2015?
2 How did the refugees themselves experience their arrival in Bochum?
3. What global challenges remain?

We are looking forward to an exciting panel discussion.

Services for Refugees and international students

Ruhr-Universität Bochum was one of the first universities in Germany to offer special study preparatory courses for refugees. Since then, it has seen itself as a university without borders.

Thanks to the successful "Integra" programme, around 100 refugees have been able to enrol at Ruhr-Universität.

Further projects run parallel to the already established measures for the support of international students. Thanks to the many years of experience of the International Office, more than 4.300 international students currently feel comfortable studying at Ruhr-Universität.
