New Partner Universities in Russia

From 16 to 21 May 2017, a delegation from Ruhr-University traveled to Moscow and Kazan in Russia. The aim of the visit was the stipulation of cooperation agreements with the Moscow State University (MGU) and the Kazan Federal University (KFU) as well as the initiation of specific project proposals.

The delegation was led by Prof Dr Kornelia Freitag, vice rector for academic affairs and professional development, Prof Dr Ilya Eremin from the Institute of Theoretical Physics III, and Elena Resch, Coordinator of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) office Moscow. At both universities, Prof. Dr. Eremin gave a lecture at the chair of theoretical physics.

After an extensive analysis of Russia's current academic landscape, the Moscow Office of the UA Ruhr established contact with the two leading Russian universities, thus laying the foundation for the new strategically important partnerships for the UA Ruhr in research and teaching.

The MGU is the largest and most important university in Russia. Since March 2017, a general cooperation agreement exists between Ruhr-Universität and MGU. This includes the exchange of students and doctoral students, cooperation projects in research as well as research stays for scientists. The cooperation between the MGU and the Faculty of Theoretical Physics, the Chair of Eastern European History and the Council of the Russian-German Institute at Ruhr-Universität have already begun. Further collaborations are planned in research and teaching, especially in the digitalization of teaching and teacher training.

The KFU is one of the most promoted and leading universities in Russia. The newly concluded cooperation agreement also includes the exchange of students and doctoral students, cooperation projects in research and research stays for scientists. Furthermore, Ruhr-Universität and KFU are part of the international project "International Digital Network Univeristy" of the Goethe-Institut Moscow, funded by the Federal Foreign Office. In addition to the project "Studienbrücke Deutschland", this is the second major project of Ruhr-Universität Bochum in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Moscow.

Further projects will be implemented in the future. In September 2017, the exchange and cooperation of doctoral candidates will already be discussed, when the RUB Research School visits the MGU and KFU as part of a consultancy trip.
