Hans-Ehrenberg-Lectures

This summer term, the Faculty for Protestant Theology for the first time hosts the Hans-Ehrenberg-Lectures. These Lectures will be organized every two years in cooperation with the Hans-Ehrenberg-Society. They are meant to remember of the Bochum pastor Hans Ehrenberg, a co-founder of the Confessing Church and fighter against the ideology of nation socialism.
The faculty is proud to announce the internationally renowned philosopher of religion Prof. Dr. Paul Mendes-Flohr (Chicago/Jerusalem) as the first Hans-Ehrenberg-Lecturer. Prof. Dr. Mendes-Flohr has been professor for Jewish thought and the history of ideas at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem and now teaches at the Center for Jewish Studies in Chicago. He also serves as director of the Franz-Rosenzweig-Forschungszentrum für deutsch-jüdische Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte in Berlin. Probably being the most well-respected Rosenzweig scholar of our time, Prof. Mendes-Flohr recently published the monograph ‘Jüdische Identität. Die zwei Seelen der deutschen Juden’ [‘Jewish Identity. The two souls of the German Jews’]. He is about to publish a biography of Martin Buber, another on Franz Rosenzweig and a book on post-traditional Jewish identity.
Prof. Mendes-Flohr will lecture in Bochum from Monday, June 27th to Thursday, June 30th, delivering two lectures and leading a workshop. His Hans-Ehrenberg-Lectures are entitled "Language, Translation, Identity - the Contribution of Jewish Philosophy of Religion to the Jewish-Christian Relationship".

Workshop on Theological presuppositions of Buber and Rosenzweigs 'Verdeutschung' of scripture. (registration required: Jannika.Haupt@rub.de)

Thursday, June 30th 12:00 c.t. - 14:00 Uhr in GA 8/34:
Lecture: "Between Sensual and Heavenly Love. Franz Rosenzweig on the Song of Songs."
