Seal information

The seal of the Ruhr-Universität depicts the pair of brothers Prometheus and Epimetheus. In Greek mythology, Prometheus - with torch in hand - is the man of action. Epimetheus, on the other hand, is the thinker with a scroll.

Prometheus, the forward-thinking, stands rather for the discovering natural and engineering sciences, Epimetheus, the reflective, for the text-interpreting humanities. Modern science strives to connect the disciplines with each other. With its "Built to change" strategy, Ruhr University Bochum is one of the universities where all sciences are in dialogue with each other and network.

The traditional seal will continue to have a place. It is not used in the function of a logo, but in its original sense as a seal. The seal symbolizes the traditional function of a quality feature and is used on certificates, testimonials and similar documents.
