Spektroskopie mit RTM
RTM ermöglicht zwei Spektroskopiearten. Die Messung der ersten Ableitung des Tunnelstroms, genannt STS (scanning tunnelling spectroscopy), gegen die Spannung erlaubt es elektronische Eigenschaften zu messen. Die Messung der zweiten Ableitung, genannt IETS (inelastic electron tunnelling spectroscopy), gibt Auskunft über Schwingungsanregungen der Oberfläche und adsorbierter Moleküle.
