International Women's Exchange

We organise a monthly meeting for women to promote social and cultural exchange and help newcomers settle in. All women with an international background can attend this event and it is held in English and German. The topics are very diverse and children are welcome to come along.

Friday 3 August 2012, 4:00pm
Meeting Place:
International Lounge, cafeteria ("Mensa") building
Topic: This time we would like to talk about the diversity of cultural traditions and focus on Ramadan and how it is celebrated all over the world. You are also invited to share the specific cultural traditions of your country of origin with us.

This topic will be presented by Dr. Shafaq Hussain:
"Ramadan, the 9th month of the lunar calendar, is celebrated with zeal and zest in the Muslim community. In order to get to know more about Ramadan and how it is celebrated in different parts of the world, we would like to invite you to join us at this upcoming event. Your participation will make the event more informative and interesting as you can share your experiences and views on Ramadan in your home countries and regions."

Dr. Hussain is a development economist and a research fellow at the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE), Ruhr- Universität Bochum. Before joining the IEE in 2006, she worked as a lecturer at Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan. In addition to her experience gained as a teacher, she also worked on various projects and research surveys with Action Aid Pakistan and SAP Pakistan. She is also a voluntary member of various local NGOs in Pakistan. Some of you may already know her, as she is a regular participant at the International Women's Exchange.

As always, we will have time to discuss different topics and answer any questions you may have.

Children are welcome to attend!
