Rhine Hike on Whitsun
21 international students took part in RUBiss semester programme’s hike from Loreley to Kaub that took the group about 16 km through the picturesque landscape of the world cultural heritage Mittelrheintal (Middle Rhine Valley). The wonderful but partly challenging trail went along slopes and cliffs, through vineyards and woods, as well as the famous rock of Loreley from which, according to legend, the nymph Lorelei sang to riverboat men causing their death. The hike also passed some of the many castles of the region.
On the next day, after a night at the youth hostel Rheinsteig, a boat trip along the Rhine took us to the small city of Rüdesheim before we went back to Bochum in the afternoon.
