Acknowledgements for Volunteers
On behalf of the whole rectorate Dr. Christina Reinhardt said thank you to Mia Berg and the many other students volunteering in the Integra-12 programme as German tutors for refugees within the #dankvent at Ruhr-Universität.
Mia Berg studies the master programmes history and theatre sciences at RUB. When at the end of 2015 more and more refugees needed to leave their home countries she also wanted to help. She decided to start teaching German as language skills are fundamental for successful integration. The Integra programme – financed by the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdiesnt (DAAD) – of the International Office offered her to opportunity to get involved. The International Office and the office of Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF) offer the Integra-12 project, who train and support the German tutors.
Mia Berg is fascinated by her volunteering and teaching experience. Never before has she met so many kind and wonderful people. Furthermore, she enjoyed teaching (especially in adult education and pupils with a refugee background) so much that she started further training in “Deutsch als Fremdsprache” in order to get a teaching qualification.
