Project: let refugees benefit of your semester ticket
Did you already notice the pins on the jackets and bags of some students? They are part of the project “Flüchtlinge mitnehmen”, which started in August 2015.
The idea of the project is as follows:
People owning a sharable ticket for the public transportation system may invite refugees to share their ticket at certain times for a free ride.
As a student you may take a refugee with you on your VRR semester ticket either during the week after 7 pm or at all times on the weekend. The cities Essen, Duisburg, Bochum, Gelsenkirchen and Herne take part in this project.
The pins should be worn while another person is allowed to share your ticket. This sign enables the refugees to notice you at the transport stations and give them the opportunity to contact you easily.
These buttons are available at no charge at the International Office as well as at the AStA of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
