Delegation from Vietnam at Ruhr-Universität

A delegation from Vietnam made a stop at Ruhr-Universität on its one-week study tour through Germany at the invitation of Goethe Institute.

On 26 April 2017, the 21 participants as well as three representatives of Goethe Institute Hanoi visited Ruhr-Universität Bochum and were warmly welcomed by Rector Prof Dr Axel Schölmerich and Monika Sprung, Head of the International Office. Heads of Vietnamese secondary schools and vocational colleges as well as representatives of the regional education authorities and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training were guests among the guests at Ruhr-Univeristät.

The visitors were especially interested in the experiences of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) with the project “Studienbrücke Deutschland” and the possibility of an advanced university entrance in the MINT courses for Vietnamese pupils and students. The staff of the International Office presented the procedure and the contents of the project “Studienbrücke”, emphasizing in particular the intensive care given to the students by the universities of the UA Ruhr during the project. “Studienbrücke Deutschland” is a project that the UA Ruhr under the central coordination of Ruhr-Universität Bochum has developed together with the Goethe Institute Moscow and the DAAD. In its current pilot phase, it offers students of the region Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) the opportunity to start studying in Germany right after graduation. To achieve this, German language skills must be at a high level and exceptionally good results in the test of study capability TestAS, which consists of a general and a specific test, are required.

Within the framework of this programme, interested students from the participating countries are being prepared for their studies at the universities of UA Ruhr. In this case, the necessary prerequisites for the examinations are excellent German and specialised knowledge, which are tested in the form of TestDaF and TestAS. Ruhr-Universität Bochum offers for the applicants from the EECA countries the whole subject spectrum of the MINT courses.

Since the start of project “Studienbrücke” in 2016, 51 students have started their studies at one of the universities of the UA Ruhr. For the coming winter semester 2017/18, applications from highly motivated and effort-willing pupils from the region of EECA are expected. In this round, students from the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Georgia and Kazakhstan are taking part. It is planned to expand this project format to prospective students from other countries of origin.
