DAAD-Price for Xuan Sinh Hoang

This year the DAAD-Price has been awarded to Xuan Sinh Hoang from Vietnam, a Master student of Applied Computer Science.

The award of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is granted to international students who execute outstanding academic performances and demonstrate social commitment. The award is given during the annual meeting of DAAD scholarship holders and includes a price of 1000 €. The announcement is addressed to employees of the University for proposing qualified students.

This year’s awardee was nominated by Prof. Dr. Klaus Funke of the Department of Neurophysiology who also held the laudatory speech for Mr Hoang. The Price was awarded by the Vice Rector of RUB Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Löwenstein. Mr Hoang was selected by a selection committee of the International Office due to his outstanding academic performances in the field of Applied Computer Science and due to his excellent contribution to a research project in the field of Neurophysiology. Furthermore, Mr Hoang is actively involved in environmental protection and takes care of new Vietnamese students coming to Bochum.

Besides the awards ceremony, the annual DAAD scholarship holders’ meeting offers other interesting acts. This year, the scholarship holders were given the opportunity to present their home countries by the host of the DAAD, Ms Dr. Birgit Klüsener. By means of interesting presentations, singing, dancing and delicious food, students from Argentina, Chile and Mexico presented their countries.

In total, students from Afghanistan, Egypt, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, France, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Cameroon, Kenia, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Moldavia, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Zambia, Saudi-Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Belarus as well as former DAAD scholarship holders of RUB were invited.

The DAAD is one of the most significant funding organizations for international exchange of students and researchers all over the world and is funding annually about 110 international students who start studying at RUB. Furthermore, international students taking part in special projects, and RUB students who are studying abroad, are sponsored.
