ExtraSchicht: International Garden and Nature

On 6 July 2012 RUB is going to be an ExtraSchicht venue for the second time. The International Office will also be there again: We will be setting up an international gazebo with the help of German and international students and researchers with a lot of projects to do with the topic 'International Garden and Nature'.

‘Gardens of the World’, ‘National Flowers’, ‘Superstition and Rituals’ or 'Sustainable Development' and an international garden cookbook are just some of the projects that will be presented to visitors on posters, at info stands or in the form of presentations and installation art. Visitors can get involved in activities at craft tables such as making a sculpture out of recyclable materials.

Night of Industrial Culture

Once a year on a summer’s night 'Extraschicht' draws attention to the cultural heritage of former industrial facilities and current production centres in the whole of the Ruhr Area. Mines and mine dumps, old factories and modern companies are turned into venues for the ‘Night of Industrial Culture' with theatre, dancing, music and installation art. 200,000 visitors can travel from venue to venue, using public transport and shuttle buses put on especially for the event, and be mesmerised by an atmosphere which can only be created in the Ruhr Area. ExtraSchicht at RUB will take place in the Botanical Garden this year.
