The Ruhr Fellows 2013 are here!

Follow-up of a success story: By way of the scholarship programme ‘Ruhr Fellows’, the UAMR and the Initiativkreis Ruhr are once again bringing talented students from the American universities Harvard, Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania to the Ruhr Area and making them acquainted with the universities of the region and commercial enterprises with the help of internships. Jan-Peter Nissen, head of the Initiativkreis Ruhr GmbH, explained the aim of the programme as follows: "By combining a study visit and an internship, we offer an interesting link between academic modules and work experience. Furthermore, the students can gain a network of valuable contacts in the Ruhr Area. This concept has proven itself in the past year and was so popular with companies and students that we have allocated four additional places this year.”

Academic and practical: Ruhr Fellowship Programme with two phases

The two month-long Ruhr Fellowship Programme is split into two phases: In the first four weeks the students will visit a summer school. The University Alliance Metropolis Ruhr (UAMR) organises the academic programme under the direction of Ruhr-Universität Bochum. This way, the students have the opportunity to get to know the three UAMR universities ‘Ruhr-Universität Bochum’, the ‘University of Duisburg-Essen’ and the ‘Technical University of Dortmund’.
In the second half the students will complete a four week-long internship with a company of the Initiativkreises Ruhr. This year the internship places are with BP Europa, Deutsche Bank, Evonik, Hochtief, ista International, RAG, Siemens, SMS, Trimet Aluminium and Vaillant.
