Second Humboldt Professorship for RUB
The Faculty of Psychology at RUB cannot contain its excitement: for the second time in a short space of time, the Faculty of Psychology in Bochum is being awarded a Humboldt professorship, the most prestigious international research award in Germany. This is unusual in the higher education area and is a great success, especially due to it being a relatively small faculty. The social psychologist Prof. Dr. Jens Förster, currently at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, will receive funding of five million euros from the Humboldt foundation for a period of five years for the purpose of establishing a unique national ‘Centre for Self-regulation’ in Bochum.
Attractive environment for cutting-edge research
At RUB, the renowned researcher will investigate how we humans attain our goals, how we suppress impulses for this and how we deal with obstacles and setbacks. He will be working especially closely with the anxiety researcher and Alexander von Humboldt professor Dr. Jürgen Margraf in the same faculty.
“The Faculty of Psychology is extremely happy about the Humboldt professorship for Jens Förster. It is unbelievable that we once again succeeded in receiving this research award”, said the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Dr. Oliver T. Wolf, who regards the social psychologist Jens Förster as an “excellent researcher and teacher”. Förster will be their second Humboldt professor after Jürgen Margraf (Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy). “These awards make it clear that the Faculty of Psychology and Ruhr-Universität Bochum are perceived as an attractive environment for cutting-edge research”, added Rector Prof. Dr. Elmar Weiler.
