Guests at RUB: eight youths from Brazil with Magdalena Zomerfeld (holding the Brazilian flag) and Danuta Popanda (on the right next to her) from the team “Junge Uni”.

Eight Brazilian youths from the Humboldt School in São Paulo will be guests at Ruhr-Universität Bochum until mid-July. They are taking part in the student taster weeks “International Summer Campus” which are organised by the Coordination Office “Junge Uni” and the International Office.

The youths come from Brazilian families with part-European roots (e.g. in Germany, Switzerland, Italy), and they are interested in Germany and the possibilities to study here in Bochum. The “Junge Uni” and the International Office successfully applied for the project with BIDS (BetreuungsInitiative Deutsche Auslands- und PartnerSchulen). The BIDS Programme is from the German Academic Exchange Service, and it supports the internationalisation strategies at German universities and their efforts to attract international students. The youths receive a travelling allowance from these funds.

There are many things on the diverse agenda at RUB, including visits to lectures for Medicine, Psychology, Geosciences and Business Studies, as well as introductory presentations from the International Office, the Central Office for Student Counselling and the Career Service. The programme also includes tours of Bochum city centre and an excursion to the “Zeche Zollverein” which is a landmark dedicated to the industrial heritage of the Ruhr area. The guests will be accompanied by student mentors and tutors on campus.
