Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding

New Collaboration with the University of Waterloo in Canada

The 40th anniversary of the Canada-Germany Science and Technology (S&T) Cooperation Agreement was celebrated at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin on 8 March. Four new collaboration agreements were signed by the Canadian representatives and their German partners during the course of this commemorative event, and they will pave the way for an intensification of the collaborations between German and Canadian universities.

Professor Feridun Hamdullahpur, President of the university of Waterloo, and Professor Nils Metzler-Nolte, RUB's Vice-Rector for Early Career Researchers and International Affairs, signed an agreement in the presence of the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Canadian Ministry of Industry, Mike Lake, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Thomas Rachel, the Ambassador of Canada in Germany, Dr. Peter M. Boehm, and Secretary of the NRW Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research, Svenja Schulze.

The agreement concerns future collaborations in the field of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate students will undertake practical research placements as part of an exchange programme and active research collaborations will be strengthened.
