PAD: Foreign Language Assistants at Schools Abroad

Students training to become foreign language teachers can apply to participate in the Foreign Language Assistants programme offered by the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst (PAD) until 1 December 2012 (1 November 2012 for the USA). The assistants usually spend a whole school year (6 months in France and Italy) at a primary or secondary school, or at a US/Canadian college and assist the German teachers there.

Participants can either work in Australia, Belgium (Wallonia), China, France, Ireland, Italy, Canada (English and French-speaking areas), Mexico, New Zealand, the French-speaking part of Switzerland, Spain, the USA or the UK. One of the subjects taken at university should be the language of the host country. However, this is not necessary for the European countries and China. In these countries it is enough that you have a good command of the host language. The application documents can be submitted to the Ministry of Education for the respective federal state (i.e. NRW).
