We offer following Master theses at the earliest possible timepoint:

1. The role of the soluble adenylyl cyclase in different skin cancer cells (in cooperation with the Dermatology Dept. of the St. Josef Hospital Bochum). Cell survival, apoptosis, autophagy, expression of different proteins as well as signal transduction shall be analyzed in different cell lines. Experience in cell culture techniques and Western blot would be an advantage.

2. Heart diseases: Interaction between PKG and CamKII in heart cells (H9C2 cell line). The interaction shall be analyzed depending on different stimuli in cells as well as in vitro using microscale thermophoresis. Experience in molecular biology, cloning, cell culture techniques, transfection and Western blot would be an advantage.

3. Cardiomyopathies: Characterization of the HCM-associated TnI mutation deltaK183 regarding its function and interactions with other sarcomer proteins (in cooperation with the Institute of Vegetative Physiology, University of Cologne). Interactions shall be analyzed using cosedimentation and microscale thermophoresis; further tasks are measurement of the calcium dependent activation and preparation of samples for electron microscopy. Experience in molecular biology, protein isolation and chromatography would be an advantage.

The Master theses are addressed primarily to students of Biology/Biochemistry, but other studens meeting the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.
