The research group focuses on robot-based laser deposition welding. The group has a robot cell with integrated robots at its disposal for this purpose. In addition to additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing is also possible in the robot cell.

The robot cell is located in the ZESS building of the Ruhr University Bochum, on the former Opel site, now Mark 51°7.

The enclosure of the system is double-walled with active monitoring of any damage caused by laser radiation.
