The RUB with its green meadow wasn't really my ideal of student life with pubs and culture.

I studied at the Ruhr-Universität because …
… my uncle, Prof. Hellmut Flashar, had taught at the RUB. At the beginning I lived with the Biedenkopf family and looked after their children at the same time. The RUB with its green meadow wasn't really my ideal of student life with pubs and culture, but after I moved to the Roncalli Hall of Residence my attitude towards life changed.

When I think back to my time as a student, I remember …
… a Gothic test that I only passed because the auditorium was so big that it was easy to hide a copy of the Bible under the table to help with the translation.

Today, I see the Ruhr-Universität as …
… a fine example of the expansion of education that took place in the 1960s.
