Crystal Engineering
How well do we currently understand the aggregation of small molecules in the solid state?
Most of intermolecular interactions are not very strong and their formation is related to and affected by small changes in the molecular structure and the crystallisation  conditions.

5-fluorouracil is an antineoplastic API, administered orally and as an injection to treat skin, colorectal, breast, gastrointestinal, and ovarian cancers.
5-fluorouracil is an interesting molecular building block not only from a pharmaceutical point of view but also from the point of view of Crystal Engineering. The simultaneous presence of hydrogen donors and acceptors allows the formation of a wide variety of multicomponent systems. With focus on pharmaceutical applications, co-crystalline 5-fluorouracil compounds with the nontoxic co-formers succinic acid and adipic acid could be synthesized and characterized.
