Cry Freedom(1987) - Biography/Drama

The film reveals the brutal apartheid regime in South Africa. It is the story of Steve Biko, a black freedom fighter, and Donald Wood, a white journalist. Their friendship ends, when Biko is murdered by white police officers. Donald is involved in public protests against apartheid, which lead to the freedom of the blacks in South Africa. The Englishes spoken by the characters reflect White and Black South African English, but the main actors, Denzel Washington and Kevin Kline, are of course not mother tongue speakers of these varieties.

Goodbye Bafana (2007) - Biography/Drama/History

The movie tells the story of James Gregory, a prison guard at the Robben Island Prison in South Africa. His racism is manifested in his shabby treatment of the black inmates. Nelson Mandela is one of the prisoners who has the misfortune to be under the watchful eye of James Gregory. In this film, you can listen to Black South African English and White South African English.
