Hotel Rwanda (2004) - Drama/History/Thriller

The film is set in Rwanda during the time of the genocide in which thousands of Tutsis were killed by Hutu extremists. The film depicts an atmosphere of tension which eventually ends in war. All of these events take place in a country where bribery and corruption are the order of the day. Paul Rusesabagina is the manager of Hôtel des Mille Collines. He is of Hutu descent but his wife is Tutsi. He and his family are living under constant threat from the Hutu militia. Paul must divert the Hutu soldiers, care for the refugees, be a source of strength to his family, and at the same time make sure his hotel maintains the appearance of a functioning high-class hotel. Outside of the hotel, the situation becomes more and more violent, and mobs in the streets hover outside the gates. The varieties spoken in this film are African English and British English. Don Cheadle who portrays Paul Rusesabinga is an African American actor, however.

These and other videos are available at GB 6/29.
