RekliBau - Increasing and updating the "Building with wood" database and presenting the impact on resource consumption and climate protection

The close connection between energy use, raw materials, climate and environmental protection is becoming increasingly clear and inevitably leads to calls for more resource optimisation in addition to achieving climate protection targets. Since 2020, the EU Parliament and Commission have been strategically promoting the sustainable use of resources in Europe with the Green Deal. The industry (in this case construction products) must contribute to this with increased resource efficiency and the increased use of recyclable and reprocessed materials and products, while at the same time focussing on or significantly reducing the impact on climate protection.

Against this background, the project determines standardised life cycle assessment data (life cycle inventories and impact assessment) for identified segments of the construction sector at building level, in which corresponding information has so far only been available in isolated cases and which, however, is the prerequisite for a well-founded assessment of the environmental impact of the use of wood in the construction sector and possible potential for increasing efficiency in the use of the renewable raw material. Based on the building data, corresponding substitution potentials for environmentally relevant indicators for mapping resource utilisation are to be empirically determined.
