The in February 2015 newly established section of “International Political Economy of East Asia” deals with the analytical and practical dimension of national and regional policies in East Asia. Particularly Northeast Asia and the states of the PR China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, but also the increasingly integrated economic zone of Southeast Asia constitute the focus of research and teaching. The question of how politics and economics in East Asia are organised relates not only to the domestic perspective but also to the interaction with external actors. In this regard, East Asia´s changing role for German and European economics and politics is another focus of work at the Chair.

Jean Monnet Chair

The objective of the project on “The International Political Economy of EU-Asia Relations” (IPEEAR) is to promote excellence in teaching and research in EU Studies. Since the establishment of the Jean Monnet Programme in 1990, the European Commission aims at supporting teaching, research and reflection in the field of European integration studies at the level of higher education institutions within and outside the European Union. The activities also foster the dialogue between the academic world and policy-makers, in particular with the aim of enhancing governance of EU policies. Apart from the Jean Monnet Modules and Centeres of Excellence, the Jean Monnet Chair´s key activities include courses, research, conferences, networking activities, and publications in the field of EU studies.
