M1-ESR: Computational modelling of 3-dimensional individualized inner ears

CI performance is limited by the structural and geometric properties of the cochlea as well as the remaining neural functions of the inner ear. The location of the electrodes in the cochlea affects the spatial resolution and the frequency mapping of stimulation and damage to auditory neurons will further limit the efficiency of information transfer. In this project we aim to develop an individualised 3-D structural and neural model of the inner ear to provide a novel approach for an individually optimised processing strategy. This model will be evaluated under various stimulation maps and strategies.
