CV

Dietmar Michael Wohlbauer studied at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in Austria for Health Care IT majoring Medical Image Processing. In 2014, he conducted his Master thesis at the University of Southern California, Institute for Creative Technologies (USC, ICT) with subject “Automatic Binaural Acoustic Analysis of Spatial Orientation Awareness related to a Selected Population“. The project based on the idea to test a globally random selected pool of participants through a self-created online based binaural-acoustic algorithm to find differences related to gender, age and living area by manipulating acoustic samples within its location in space.

During his studies he also initiated an external project for the Provincial Hospital Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Institute of Diagnostics and Interventional Radiology by developing an image post-processing software for visualization of MRI data in 2D and 3D space.

Beside Dietmar’s interest in acoustic sciences, he works in electronic music production since 2008 which enabled him a deep insight in not only acoustic sound processing but also in gathering knowledge in audio recording, sound manipulation and related acoustic arrangements.

In May 2015, Dietmar joined the ICanHear Team Zurich to work on his PhD thesis under guidance of Prof. Norbert Dillier.

Research Interests

Current research includes development of novel Cochlear Implant (CI) algorithms. The goal is to design and evaluate an opportunity for CI patients to binaurally interpret their surrounding area by utilizing binaural information of two linked implants.
