CV

Originally from Hanover (Germany) I studied electrical engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) at the University of Technology Braunschweig and at the Universitat Politècnica de València in Spain. Several internships and projects with Sennheiser Electronic, Dräger Medical and IAV Automotive Engineering enriched these years.
After graduating as Dipl.-Ing. in 2011 with my thesis on A psychoacoustically optimised in-car communication system I continued working for IAV as development engineer in automotive industry collaborating with leading manufacturers. I gained experience through several projects in the field of speech and audio systems for automotive vehicles (e.g. hands-free telephony, audio-system design and in-car communication) ranging from prototype design to field experiments with clients and product maintenance.
In November 2013, I started as a PhD researcher at the ISVR, Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton and the EU Marie Curie network ICanHear. Technology, sound and sense come together in this interdisciplinary and innovative research project that strives for improving the life of people with hearing loss. This combination is fascinating and a strong motivation for me.

Research

My research work tackles the present challenge of improving speech perception of people with hearing loss in noisy acoustic environments. The healthy auditory system is still superior to technical solutions and therefor serves as an ideal prototype. This is why I combine the advances of computational auditory modelling with powerful machine learning techniques to develop improved noise reduction schemes for application in both hearing aid and cochlear implant technology.
