Constitutional Amendment XVI, 1913
Der Congress hatte 1894 ein Einkommensteuergesetz verabschiedet, das der Supreme Court für verfassungswidrig erklärte. Der am 2. Juli 1909 verabschiedete und am 3. Februar 1913 ratifizierte Zusatz gibt dem Congress die explizite Erlaubnis solche Gesetze zu erlassen.

 

Article XVI.
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
