Curriculum Vitae Prof. Dr Kornelia Freitag

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Professional Development

Kornelia Freitag was born in Potsdam on October 23, 1958. She is married and has two children. She read English Studies and Slavistics at Potsdam University and graduated in 1981, passing the state examination as diploma-certified teacher for English and Russian. In 1985, she received her PhD degree in Potsdam and was employed as research assistant at the Institute for Slavistics and English Studies. Following postdoctoral research at Stanford University, she habilitated in 2001 at Potsdam University and, in 2002, accepted the appointment at the Department of American Studies at the English Seminar at RUB.

Here, she assumed the position of Vice Dean from 2005 to 2007, and that of Dean at the Faculty of Philology from 2007 to 2009. From 2010 to 2012, she assumed the function of Spokeswoman with the Executive Board at Ruhr-University Research School, from 2013 to 2015 she was a member of the Senate. In 2010, together with colleagues at the RUB Faculty of Historical Science and Faculty of American Studies at TU Dortmund, she founded the Ruhrcenter of American Studies, which has today been expanded to include the University Duisburg-Essen, and the joint PhD programme American Studies. Since 2011, she has been a tutor at the German National Merit Foundation.

Since October 1, 2015, Prof Dr Kornelia Freitag has been Vice Rector for Teaching and Continuing Education at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
