Next to currywurst and shaft towers, football is yet another element that is strongly connoted with Ruhr. In the early 1990s (91/92 season), five Ruhr clubs were represented in German premiere league (BVB, S 04, MSV Duisburg, VfL Bochum and Wattenscheid 09); today, it's famously only two of them, namely BVB and S 04. These two are also involved in large international football matches, which means that the Ruhr's weekly football programme spans a comprehensive range: it starts with, let's say, the third-league SV Höntrop team and ends with Real Madrid. Consequently, it offers something for everyone (and for every wallet). Comprehensive information regarding Ruhr sports are published in the Reviersport magazine and on the Reviersport website.
