Essen: Villa Hügel

The picturesque Essen district Bredeney is home to the Krupp family's former manor: Villa Hügel. It was built between 1870 and 1873 by Alfried Krupp (son of the Krupp factory's founder Friedrich Krupp), and the entire property stretches over an area of 8,100 square metres. In addition to interesting information about the family and company history, visitors are offered the chance of attending regular exhibitions dealing with the Ruhr's industrial heritage as well as various concerts. With a parking area of 28 hectares, this family seat – probably the most famous one in NRW – is a destination for people of all ages who seek relaxation and recreation.
