Hattingen: Burg Blankenstein

In the Blankenstein district in the town of Hattingen, the ruin of the eponymous castle "Burg Blankenstein" is located on a hill. It was built in the 13th century by count Adolf I von der Mark, and was one of the family's four main castles. The castle was restored as far back as the 18th century, and it was reconstructed in the historism style. Non-authentic additions were professionally removed in the late 1950s. Today, Burg Blankenstein offers its visitors the opportunity to eat, drink and celebrate in a historic ambience. But even if you're not hungry, it is well worth a visit, if only for the sake of the panorama at 63 altitude metres!
