Bochum Symphony Orchestra

The concerts of Bochum's Symphony Orchestra frequently take place at the Ruhr-Universität’s Audimax. The orchestra, which was founded roughly about the same time as Schauspielhaus Bochum in 1918 under the name Städtisches Orchester, does not have yet its own venue, but uses a number of decentralised locations for its concerts. This status quo is to change when the construction of the music centre in the city of Bochum is completed. Since 1994, German-American national Steven Sloane has assumed the position of general musical director at the Symphony Orchestra. He’s achieved several remarkable successes, including being awarded the prize for the best concert programme twice; under his auspices the orchestra has gone on international concert tours and made much-noticed recordings.
