Stadtpark / Tierpark

The centre of Bochum is where the city park Stadtpark, and the zoo are located. Housing some 350 species, the zoo is smaller and less hectic than the large zoos in the surrounding cities. In addition to the petting zoo and the seal aquarium, the zoo offers interesting highlights that can be visited even in bad weather, such as the aquarium, terrarium and fossil house. The fossil house provides an insight into the animal and plant world from 150 million years ago. Directly adjacent is the large city park – a true paradise for walkers. With its sunbathing lawns and its ponds, the park attracts many people who seek recreation and relaxation, especially in the summer. The Bismarkturm viewing platform at an altitude of 34 metres affords a great view across the park and the inner city.
