Prof. Pöppelbuß and Prof. Meske have successfully submitted an application to the "Innovative Practice Projects" funding program for interdisciplinary and transfer-oriented teaching formats at RUB. The project, funded with 57,000 euros for personnel and material resources, is called "KIbox" and is derived from the "Kickbox" innovation method developed by Adobe. Students are to independently develop solutions to socially and practically relevant challenges by using artificial intelligence (AI). As a starting point for the teaching format, sustainability challenges are formulated in which AI can contribute to a greener and more competitive Europe. For this purpose, students will receive a physical box with information and resources (e.g. access to the RUB Makerspace as well as AWS, 250 euros per group, expert contacts in science and practice). Detailed information for students (of all subjects!) will follow.

Prof. Dr. Christian Meske is interested in how artificial intelligence (AI) affects the world of work. On August 19, 2021, he was appointed Professor of Sociotechnical System Design and Artificial Intelligence at RUB. The professorship is located at the Institute of Ergonomics and forms the information technology focus there. At the same time, it builds a bridge to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
In addition to AI-based decision support systems, Meske's research group also deals with social bots and conversational agents.
The Chair of Sociotechnical System Design and Artificial Intelligence of Prof. Meske represents the succession of the Chair of Information and Technology Management of the honored colleague Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Herrmann, who will retire from active service in March 2022.
