Organizing Interventions in Humanitarian Crises

The project familiarizes participants with the fascinating, but demanding field of international humanitarian action and the manifold problems associated with reducing human suffering in conflict areas. The module consists of five interrelated sessions: 1. Contexts, concepts and strategies of humanitarian action; 2. Actors and organizations; 3. Cross-cutting issues; 4. The Democratic Republic of the Congo; and 5. A simulation game (three days). Guest lectures from NGO representatives (report about their work in a crisis region and provide professional insights into technical engineering and medical issues) are also part of this module.

Zielgruppe: The modules are open to B.A. students from all Faculties. Requirements for participation: minimum: 3rd semester, good knowledge of the English language (courses are entirely taught in English), and a high degree of interest in international humanitarian action.

Das Projekt wird ab dem WS 2015/16 als interdisziplinäres Angebot in Kooperation mit der Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaft fortgeführt.
