Sigurd Thienhaus completed his diploma studies at the University of Cologne in 2000 in the field of solid state physics with a focus on magnetoresistive effects in doped manganites.
In summer 2000 he joined the research group "Thin adaptive films" at the research center caesar (Bonn) as a PhD student. There he worked on the development of thin film shape memory alloys which can be used as actuator or sensor layers and received his PhD from the University of Bonn in early 2005.
He then moved to the Ruhr-University Bochum as a research assistant to the chair of Prof. A. Ludwig "Materials of Microtechnology". As an academic advisor he is now active in a wide range of fields, such as teaching, combinatorial material development, occupational safety, research construction, personnel matters, project management, materials informatics etc.
