Graduation Day 2010

On December 3rd, 2010, the IGSN celebrated its 9th Graduation Day. The day began with the annual meeting of our Advisory Board followed by talks from five of our students, Silvia Hartwig, Michael Karus, Giulio Pergola, Sebastian Donatti and Arndt Manzel on the subject of their PhD projects. We would like to extend our thanks to these five for the time and effort they put into their presentations. The morning session was rounded off with poster presentations before everybody adjourned for lunch.

In the afternoon 100 school children from several of Bochum's primary schools made their way into the "Veranstaltungszentrum" where they would receive their prizes for the winning entries in our recently-held painting competition "The Brain of the Future". Impressed by our gown-wearing graduates and faculty members they listened to Prof. Manahan-Vaughan's laudations, after which the rector of the Ruhr-University awarded the prizes to the pupils. Some of our students did a marvelous "nanny-job" before the ceremony began. Just take a look at the pictures to find out who!

The next highlight of the afternoon was the ceremony for our seven 2010 graduates. Following superb laudations from their supervisors, our speaker Prof. Dr. Jörg T. Epplen together with the Rector of the Ruhr-University Prof. Dr. Elmar Weiler awarded our graduates their PhDs in Neuroscience.

The day was brought to a very pleasant close in "La Posta", a Spanish restaurant in Bochum, where everybody was able to eat and drink their fill amid agreeable company.

Thanks to all those who made this day so lively and such a wonderful success.
