General Information IGSN CSC Programme

General information on the RUB-China Scholarship Council (CSC) Programme at the International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN), Ruhr University Bochum

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) offers scholarships to highly qualified Chinese candidates who wish to pursue a PhD degree at an international university. The International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN), Ruhr University Bochum, Germany offers state-of-the-art PhD training in Neuroscience.

Candidates can apply for open PhD positions at the IGSN as listed here. Excellent students from the People's Republic of China willing to enrol at the IGSN, Ruhr University Bochum should apply for General Programme of the CSC.

Research projects specialise in the areas of molecular, developmental, systems, and cognitive neuroscience, and comprise intensive training in state-of-the-art methods, as well as supervision by internationally renowned neuroscientists. Research projects will be accompanied by high-level English-language tuition in the field of neuroscience. The programme will culminate with a PhD in Neuroscience.

Timeline for CSC applications:

Stage 1: Application to the Ruhr University Bochum and the International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN), Ruhr University Bochum

October 1st 2022: Opening of calls to apply for PhD projects at the IGSN. Projects for the next round of the RUB- CSC applications will be uploaded on our website.

Please fill in two (short) application forms:

October – December 2022: Short interviews via zoom with selected candidates.

December 15th 2022: End of stage 1 of application procedure. We collect all applications and decide which candidates will be admitted to the IGSN.

End of January: Prospective doctoral researchers will receive an "unconditional offer letter" from their supervisors, which is in turn necessary for the candidate’s application to the CSC. We inform the prospective doctoral researchers about the requirements and documents necessary for the enrolment as a doctoral candidate at the Ruhr University Bochum.

Stage 2: Application to the CSC

April-May: Candidates selected by the IGSN in the 1st stage of application now submit online applications to the CSC. Related forms are available online at http://apply.csc.edu.cn. In this application to the CSC, the candidate should clearly state that she/he plans to do PhD studies at the Ruhr University Bochum. The CSC schedules the application deadline.

May: The Chinese jury makes a final decision after the assessment of submitted applications and publishes the list of stipend awardees by mid-June. The outcome will be sent to the applicant, as well as to the IGSN/RUB.

July: Visa application and finalising the application. The CSC-approved candidate now must apply for a visa from the German authorities, and book plane tickets to Germany. This must be approved by the CSC. Afterwards, the CSC agreement must be signed and the deposit paid.

September 2023: Enrolment at the Ruhr University, start of the PhD Programme at the IGSN.
